Obzerv sells laser range-gated night vision surveillance system to the French army

Quebec, Canada – July 5, 2005 – Obzerv Technologies Inc., a manufacturer of laser range-gated night vision surveillance systems, announced today that it has been awarded a contract to deliver such a system for the French Army Parisian Expertise Center (DGA/DET/CEP).

This ARGC-2400 system can identify in total darkness, with a 90% probability, military vehicles at 4 km. The camera operates at 860 nm and can observe scenes in passive mode during the day and in active mode during the night. This technology is based on the back reflection of laser pulses by the target that allows reading registration marks with 15 inch letter at a distance of 6 km.

"During the last year, Obzerv has demonstrated the ARGC-2400 to government security agencies in more than ten different countries, showing unprecedented detailed images to the customers in their operational conditions. Customers are always very impressed by the performance of this new technology embodied in the ARGC-2400." said Mr. Deni Bonnier, President of Obzerv.

The ARGC-2400, which is a system qualified by the US Navy in August 2004, is an electro-optical device that utilizes a DALIS!" (Diode Array Laser Illumination System) and range-gating camera to provide long-range night vision functions in complete darkness and in degraded weather conditions such as rain, fog and snow. The resulting real-time video images present information that is critical for today's new security challenges, and until now, were not met by any other technologies like thermal imaging or passive Intensified CCD. It can read a ship's name and recognize a human being at up to 5 km, and classify a vehicle at 10 km and beyond. The ARGC-2400 is the only long-range active imaging system ready to be deployed and used easily by security forces, thanks to its high level of integration and carefully designed operator interface.

"This contract is another confirmation of Obzerv's leadership in the long range night vision arena. Governments around the world are starting to specify laser range-gated technology in their security programs in place of thermal imaging, confirming the significant operational advantage of this technology. Terrorism, organized crime, drug trafficking, illegal immigration pose new challenges to armed forces and security organizations. Amongst them, vehicle identification and activity monitoring at long ranges are crucial to the anti-terrorist war to collect evidence, pin point the right targets and protect innocent by-standers. In that regard, laser range-gated imaging provides a decisive operational advantage to meet these challenges" said Mr. Bonnier.

Obzerv's active range-gating technology
A breakthrough technology that provides superior identification and recognition capabilities compared to the best thermal imager. Obzerv's cameras have raised the bar in the surveillance market.
